Home / The committee

The national FAO Committee, linking the Italian Government and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN - established by legislative decree no. 1182 of 7th May 1948, ratified by Law no. 561/1956-, was set up in order to comply with the need stated by the members of the FAO Conference, on September 1946, to create a national committee able to link the national Government to the FAO itself.

As it often occurs in many countries worldwide which joined this initiative, the Committee guarantees an efficient link and co-ordination among the Italian Government, the international UN organizations and others working in the agricultural and food sectors.

More specifically, the Committee grants the link among the Italian Government, the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN), the IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development), the WFP (World Food Programme of the UN), Bioversity International, the OECD (Organization for the Economic Co-operation and Development), the WTO (World Trade Organization) and similar international institutes.
